The request to rezone rural land to build a county hospital in a gully in
Woodville is the most ludicrous plan I have ever heard.
It is proposed in a gully at the foot of and drains the Valpo Moraine and
subject to drainage from SR 49 Bypass.
If you travel on U.S. Hwy 6 you would be able to see the roof of the
building, for it is to be built 60 feet below U.S. Hwy 6.
The building will be five stories in height. Are the taxpayers of Liberty
Twp. supposed to provide fire protection for the structure?
This installation is five miles away from any municipality. Do county
officials realize that in the snow of 1967, no wheels moved in Porter County
for three days. Not even on the Toll Road. Why build in this isolated spot?
They intend to use Damon Run Conservancy Utilities. Are they building here
just to save the conservancy? Is the existing 10- or 12-inch sewer line large
enough for the proposed development? If not, the members of the Conservancy
District are responsible to replace them.
I understand the corporation that purchased Porter Memorial Hospital paid the
county about $100 million for the unit. Why buy it and then demolish it and
build a new unit? Why not just build a new unit and let the county have their
present unit?
The citizens need some answers.
