Months of work culminated Thursday in the Porter Park Board’s adoption of a new five-year master plan that will keep the park eligible to receive state and federal funding.

According to park administrator Connie Goysich, who summarized the meeting, Park Board President Bud Tilden will present the master plan at the Town Council meeting Tuesday for final signature before the document is sent to Indianapolis. The plan includes proposed acquisition of additional land along the Little Calumet River for recreation purposes.

Also Thursday, the annual Easter Egg Hunt was set for 10 a.m. April 12 at Hawthorne Park. It was announced that Liz Thompson will return as the summer park director, and that an employee to do part-time cleaning of buildings a few hours a week still is being sought.

Goysich also said recent problems with the park’s reservation telephone line have been repaired.

Board member Juan Magana described the information he gained at a recent five-state parks conference, including seminars he attended on skate parks and snowmobiles.
