The Porter Town Council threw its support Tuesday behind renewed local
efforts to combat illegal drug use in the Duneland area.
Monday, Chesterton Town Council members Mike Bannon and Sharon Darnell
challenged local government officials to take a larger role in the fight
against drug abuse to protect the young people in their community and to
preserve everyone’s quality of life.
According to Porter Town Council member Paul Childress, “That problem’s not
just Chesterton’s problem. It’s our problem, too. No doubt it is a serious
problem in our community and something we have to work really hard on.”
Asked Childress, “What should we do? I have no clue.” He said Porter is open
to ideas how best to achieve meaningful progress in the drug wars. Other
Porter council members concurred with his comments.
