Missed Porter meetings reset to September 5

The Porter Town Council and the Redevelopment Commission both will meet Sept. 5 to make up their recent meetings that were canceled due to a NIPSCO power failure at the town hall.

The RDC will address four project change-orders when it convenes Thursday at 6 p.m. at the town hall.

They deal with the Calumet trail spur, the Orchard Pedestrian Way now under construction, and the ongoing construction of a new Porter Avenue lift station. Also listed on the RDC agenda is an unidentified “comprehensive report".

At 7 p.m. the Town Council will meet. The previous agenda dealt with old business; no new business was listed. A recent request to allow chickens in residential areas was not specifically listed on the Aug. 27 council agenda but at both the Sept. 5 council and RDC meetings, staff and board members will report and the public may comment about other matters under audience participation as the respective meetings begin.

The Sept. 10 Town Council meeting already had been canceled and members instead will conduct a special meeting Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. for a 2014 budget workshop open to the public. The next regularly scheduled council meeting takes place Sept. 24.

The Porter Stormwater Management Board also was canceled due to the power outage but that meeting hadn’t been rescheduled.
