The Porter Town
Council approved matching funds Tuesday for new Fire Department bunker gear
worn by responding firefighters.
Council members
OK’d fire chief Lewis Craig’s request for not to exceed $5,000 in CEDIT
funds as the local match under a 50/50 grant with the Indiana Department of
Natural Resources to buy six sets of new gear. Total cost of the purchase is
$9,997.
Park director Brian
Bugajski announced openings are now available for new sessions of Kids and
Canvas at Hawthorne Park, a shared programming activity with the Porter
County Parks Department.
Sept. 21 children
ages 5 to 9 will receive guided instruction and complete their own artwork
from 2 to 3 p.m. Ages 10 and older get into the fun from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
that day.
Registration is $8
for the first session and $10 for the second. Reservations can be made
through the Town of Porter Park Department website or the park’s Facebook
page.
The council agreed
to allow the Park Department to offer a free rental of the Hawthorne gazebo,
shelter or community center as a silent auction item for the upcoming Oct.
11 Porter’s Perfect Pint brewfest fundraiser to benefit the town Park and
Fire departments.
The council also
approved on final reading an ordinance setting the fee for town police to do
a vehicle registration check at $5. The meeting lasted barely 10 minutes.
