The Town of
Chesterton needs you, to serve on a municipal board.
At the Town
Councilís meeting Monday night, Clerk-Treasurer Stephanie Kuziela released a
list of the board seats whose terms will expire on Dec. 31.
The deadline by
which to apply for board seats is 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Submit your letter
of application to the Clerk-Treasurerís Office, located at the municipal
complex at 1490 Broadway.
incumbents who wish to re-apply for their current seats must also submit a
formal letter of application.
For the purpose of
a board appointment, a personís political affiliation is determined by the
ballot pulled in the last two primary elections in which he or she voted.
* Board of Zoning
Appeals: one opening, council appointment, candidate must be a member of the
Advisory Plan Commission. Incumbent: James Kowalski.
* Advisory Plan
Commission: two openings, presidential appointments, no more than two
members may belong to the same political party. Incumbents: Fred Owens and
* Utility Service
Board: two openings, one a presidential appointment (three years), the other
a council appointment (two years), one candidate must be a Republican or
Independent, the other may be Republican, Democrat, or Independent.
Incumbents: Scot McCord and Jim Raffin.
Management Board: one opening, council appointment, candidate must be a
Democrat or Independent. Incumbent: Bruce Mathias.
* Park and
Recreation Board: one opening, presidential appointment, no more than two
members may belong to the same political party. Incumbent: Vincent Emanuele.
Commission: one opening, council appointment, candidate may be Republican,
Democrat, or Independent. Incumbent: Alex Rodriguez.
Commission: five openings, three presidential appointments, two council
appointments. Incumbents: John Swibes, Jeff Trout, Nick Walding, Jim Ton,
and Emerson DeLaney.
* Tax Abatement
Committee: five openings, council appointments. Incumbents: Robert Allison,
Dane Lafata, Robert Poparad, Phoebe Jane House, and Stephanie Kuziela.
* Tree Committee:
one opening, council appointment. Incumbent: Stuart Franzen.
