Town Council amends Park Superintendent salary

Back To Front Page

At its Zoom meeting on Monday night, the Chesterton Town Council voted unanimously to amend the 2020 Salary Ordinance, in anticipation of the appointment of a new park superintendent.

All members and department heads were in attendance.

The amendment: the creation of the position of Park Superintendent II, an intermediate position between Assistant Park Superintendent and Park Superintendent I.

Park Superintendent I pays $60,294.26. The new position, Park Superintendent II, pays $54,630.

The Park Board is scheduled to meet remotely in executive session at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, to discuss the job performance of individual employees. The former superintendent, Bruce Mathias, retired April 17 after a 27-year career.

Shane Griffin has been serving as assistant superintendent since the winter of 2019.

Last Thoughts

Member Bob Allison, D-4th, took a moment at the end of the meeting to wish everyone good health.

Member Jim Ton, R-1st, for his part, thanked Town Manager Bernie Doyle for placing a banner ad in Monday’s edition of the Chesterton Tribune congratulating the 2020 graduates of Chesterton High School. “The ad in the paper was boss,” he said. “It was boss. I’m sure it was appreciated by all the graduates.”

Joked Allison, “I’m sure they can get their diplomas at their 10-year reunion.”
