The Chesterton Stormwater Management Board wants to put SepticSmart Week on the town’s calendar.

In a short meeting Monday night, members voted unanimously to endorse a proclamation which would make Sept. 18-22 SepticSmart Week in Chesterton.

SepticSmart Week is an initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency aiming to educate homeowners and communities on the proper care and maintenance of septic systems.

The core messages of SepticSmart Week:

* Think at the sink.

* Don’t overload the commode.

* Shield your field.

* Test your drinking water well.

The SepticSmart Week proclamation will now go before the Town Council for official action.

July in Review
