With four to six inches of lake-effect snow being forecast for today into
Tuesday--but with curbsides all over town stacked high with leaves--
Chesterton Street Commissioner John Schnadenberg is planning to plow a
little differently for this winterís first snow event.
Crews will be clearing only a travel lane down the center of roadways, so as
not to push newly raked leaf piles into front yards.
With temperatures expected later this week to go well above freezing,
Schnadenberg said, whatever snow does accumulate should melt quickly. Then,
as soon as the weather permits, crews will return to leaf collection
wherever they left off today, Schnadenberg said.
The leaf program will continue until Thanksgiving, which falls late in the
month this year.
