The new 95-gallon rollaway trash cans—one for refuse, the other for recycling—may have been delivered to the front of your home, but if your garbage was collected from the alley before you got the rollaways, it’ll still be collected from the alley now.

That word from Chesterton Street Commissioner John Schnadenberg, who told the Chesterton Tribune today that there’s been some confusion about where folks should put the rollaways for collection.

•Folks who’ve always had roadside collection still have it.

•Folks who’ve always had alley collection also still have it.

Rented Rollaways

Meanwhile, residents who previously rented rollaways and still have them may call Republic Services d/b/a Able Disposal at 929-1150 ext 1594 to arrange for a pickup of the old rollaway.

Schnadenberg noted that all households in town, including those who’ve been using rented rollaways, received two brand-new ones.

Yellow Bins

Able Disposal will no longer collect any recycling from the little 11-gallon yellow bins. Those bins are the property of the Town of Chesterton. You may keep them and use them as staging areas for your recycling—before emptying them into the green-lidded rollaway—or you may call the Street Department at 926-2222 to arrange for a pickup of your bin.

Website

Schnadenberg noted that there’s a good chance that any questions you may have about the rollaways will be answered on the town’s municipal website.
