The Chesterton Utility is asking residents along West Morgan Ave. between Eighth Street and 14th Street, as well as residents and businesses near the alley between 11th Street and 12th Street from Broadway to West Indiana Ave., to use particular care next week when driving or walking those areas, as work is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 14, on a sanitary sewer improvement project.

Insituform Technologies USA LLC will be installing a liner in the sewer mains using the trenchless Cast In Place Pipe (CIPP) method. The new liner will reduce infiltration, eliminate leaking joints, restore the structural integrity of the aging pipes, and increase the flow capacity, resulting in many more years of service.

Cleaning of the pipe will take place during the day shift, and the lining process will be done during the night shift, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. The project is scheduled to be completed by Tuesday, Jan. 22, weather permitting.

“Residents may experience temporary street closures or detours and are asked to be extra cautious during construction for everyone’s safety,” the Utility said. “It is possible for some residents or businesses to notice a foul smell at times and, if so, they are encouraged to pour water into their floor drains or drain traps in order to replace the water that may have been siphoned out during the pipe cleaning process.”

“The town appreciates the cooperation and patience of all the residents and is excited to provide this infrastructure improvement,” the Utility added.
