It’s been more than two years since the Chesterton Town Council, late in 2011, approved amendments to the planned unit development ordinance governing Indian Oak mall, for a proposed Holiday Inn Express at the southwest corner of Indian Boundary Road and Ind. 49.

But that project appears still to have legs.

At the Stormwater Management Board’s meeting Monday night, MS4 Operator Jennifer Gadzala reported that she received on Jan. 4 an application from the developer, Cosmos Hospitality LLC, for a site permit, and that her office has completed an initial review of the developer’s Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

The 80-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites would be located south of the Walgreen’s pharmacy, west of Ind. 49. Dr. Jamil Ahmed, a principal in Cosmos Hospitality Services, LLL, told the Advisory Plan Commission in the fall of 2011 that his group will be making a $6 million investment which will bring initial construction jobs, 25-30 hotel jobs, and the purchase of goods and services from local vendors.

Election of Officers

In other business, members voted 3-0 to re-elect Tom Kopko to the presidency and Al Pisarski to the vice-presidency. They also voted 3-0 to appoint Clerk-Treasurer Stephanie Kuziela to the secretariat.

The Stormwater Utility finished 2013 with a surplus of $55,142, after outperforming projected revenues for operations by $16,150.
