Two public hearings
are slated Thursday before the Chesterton Advisory Plan Commission, which
begins at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall.
The hearings deal
with proposed changes to the town’s sign ordinance, and a separate request
from Coffee Creek Center to amend its 1998 development plan so a proposed
Culver’s restaurant can be built there with the signage it seeks. At issue
during a Jan. 16 preliminary hearing was a 13 foot-tall monument sign that’s
twice as high as the development plan allows.
The restaurant
would be located near the Speedway convenience store at Gateway Boulevard
east of Indiana 49 across from the Indiana Toll Road entrance. A final
decision whether to amend the Coffee Creek plan for Culver’s is up to the
Town Council.
A preliminary
hearing is scheduled Thursday for Marci L. Stone and Stone subdivision,
outlined last month as 25 single-family lots on 10.5 acres at the southwest
corner of County Road 1100N and County Road 50W across from Bethlehem
Lutheran Church.
Bill Stone
explained there would be approximately 1/4-acre lots and homes valued at
$250,000 to $325,000 comparable to more-upscale ones in Jackson Township. If
the Stone petition is in order, a future public hearing will be set.
The meeting begins
with Bruce Deckard addressing the commission regarding a Villages of Sand
Creek stop-work order; the public may comment on other matters at that time.
Later in the meeting old business will be addressed including the
longstanding matter of the Venturi development’s sidewalks.
