Chesterton Fire Chief Mike Orlich wants to remind folks—as Independence Day
approaches—that the discharge of fireworks in town is strictly limited.
Under Town Code, fireworks may be discharged legally only on the following
days and at the following times:
•From June 29 through July 3, and from July 5 to July 9, between 5 p.m. and
two hours after sunset.
•On July 4, between 10 a.m. and 12 a.m.
•Between 10 a.m. Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. Jan. 1.
The fireworks must be purchased legally, must be discharged by an adult, and
must be discharged with the property owner’s permission.
