Council to consider chicken ordinance Monday

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the town hall.

At that meeting members are scheduled to consider, on final reading, an ordinance which would permit the owners of property of less than one-half acre in area to keep not more than four hens. That ordinance would also forbid roosters; and require the hens to be kept in a securely enclosed rear yard, in a coop with a minimum area of 10 square feet per chicken.

The council unanimously approved the ordinance on first reading at its last meeting.

In other business, members will probably adopt the 2015 Salary Ordinance; make next year’s board appointments; and approve the 2015 holiday schedule.

Redevelopment Commission

Earlier in the evening, at 6:30 p.m., the Redevelopment Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting.

Members are scheduled to hear a report from Member Jim Ton on the activities of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission.
