Growing Kids Management Corp., operator of five child care/learning facilities in the South Bend/Elkhart area, wants permission to develop one here.

The Chesterton Advisory Plan Commission will hear the preliminary petition Thursday when it meets at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall.

Growing Kids wants to develop 3.8 acres at the Chesterton Professional Complex, where a dental/orthodontic practice is located at the southwest corner of South 11th Street and County Road 1100N.

According to Growing Kids attorney Todd Leeth, the professional complex was approved in 1984 as a planned unit development, but itís unclear from public records the exact uses approved for the PUD at that time.

The current petition is to amend the 1984 ordinance adding business/commercial uses with initial development of child care.

If the petition is in order, a public hearing will be set. Final approval would be up to the Town Council.

The Plan Commission will conduct a public hearing Thursday for Marci L. Stone, who has proposed 25-lot Stone Meadows subdivision. The single-family development would be located on 10.5 acres at the southwest corner of County Roads 1100N and 50W across from Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
