Chesterton survey needs responses from the young and not so young

The Chesterton Branding Leadership Team is excited about the number of people who are taking the Downtown Chesterton Usage survey. The goal of the survey is to determine why people currently visit downtown Chesterton and how long they stay. The CBLT also wants to know what new businesses, events, festivals, and activities residents and visitors would like to see in downtown Chesterton.

Lorelei Weimer, of Indiana Dunes Tourism and a member of the CBLT, said she is “pleasantly surprised” by how many people are taking time to complete the survey. However, she has concerns about two different age groups that are not represented--individuals who are 21 years old and under and individuals who are 73 and older. Weimer noted that "downtown Chesterton is for all age groups and it's important we hear from everyone. Our goal is to increase the number of completed surveys from these two age groups."

Currently, of the surveys completed, only 2.44 percent have been completed by individuals who are 21 and under, and only 2.10 percent by individuals 73 and older.

Individuals in these age categories, are encouraged to take the survey. The survey is only 13 questions and should take five minutes or less to complete. The survey can be accessed at or by visiting Visit Chesterton on Facebook. The survey will be accessible through Sunday, August 26.

Those who cannot access the survey digitally can complete a hard copy of the survey at the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, located at 220 Broadway, Chesterton. The survey will be at the Chamber Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The last day to complete the written survey is Friday, August 24.

The mission of the CBLT is to create and support a vibrant, thriving Chesterton community celebrating the art of life while enhancing the historical charm of Chesterton.
