Businesses must register with town by January 31

Back To Front Page

Businesses operating in the Town of Chesterton have until Tuesday, Jan. 31, to submit their registration form to the Clerk-Treasurerís Office.

All businesses by now should have received a letter from Clerk-Treasurer Stephanie Kuziela reminding them to complete their registration form. That form--available online at www.chestertonin.org--asks for a variety of information related to the business, most of it to be used by the Police or Fire departments in case of emergency: owner and keyholder contact information; type of alarm system and location; location of sprinkler controls; location of lock box containing information on possible hazardous materials; location of electric panels; and location of utility shut-offs.

If a business submitted a form last year, then itís required only to complete the front side of the document. If, on the other hand, the business is new and thereís no form for it already on file, the business must complete both sides.

On completing and submitting the form, the business will receive a sticker to place in the shop window and a certificate of registration.
