The Burns Harbor Town Council will hear a report when it meets Wednesday
that INDOT likely will install a traffic signal at Indiana 149 and Tech
Drive next year.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 1240 N. Boo Rd. The
Redevelopment Commission is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. if there is business
to conduct.
Recently town officials met with representatives of the Indiana Department
of Transportation regarding the traffic signal. Clerk-treasurer Jane Jordan
said because Tech Drive is a private road that serves the Tech Business
Center light industrial park, Burns Harbor's involvement with the signal
would be to release money for it the town holds in escrow from CR England
Trucking deposited when its regional truck terminal was approved along Tech
Drive.
At that time England estimated it would add about 100 semi-trucks per day to
Indiana 149 because of the terminal and its truck-driving school. Residents
have complained the student drivers go approximately 15 mph through town
impeding traffic.
Also on Wednesday's council agenda is speed limit and street parking in
Harbor Trails subdivision and in the approved phase of The Village in Burns
Harbor subdivision. Infrastructure for both have been accepted but the
speed/parking not addressed.
The council might reorganize for 2010 a month early and name department
heads; pending are appointments to expiring terms on town boards and
commissions.
Two amendments to the zoning ordinance are up for final reading, the
often-delayed adoption of the revised personnel policy manual is on the
agenda, and year-end transfers and a temporary park loan are as well.
Updates also will be given on the status of the town IT project, demolition
of the abandoned Standard Plaza truck stop, and an item regarding the
Shadyside Park property.
Department heads will report, 2009 budget approval will be discussed, and
the public may address the council at the end of the meeting; the council
meets once a month.
