Burns Harbor schedules RDC and Westport meetings

The Burns Harbor Town Council will convene two special meetings Friday, and the Redevelopment Commission will meet Monday.

The announced purpose of Friday’s public council session is to discuss the former Westport Community Club property utilities; the club disbanded earlier this year and the town accepted the donation of the clubhouse and grounds.

The special meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. or immediately following a previous closed executive session called for 8 a.m., both at the town hall.

The council will conduct its closed session to discuss the purchase or lease of real property by the governing board up to the time a contract or option to purchase or lease is executed by the parties.

Chesterton Pop Warner football has expressed an interest in making Westport its permanent home and developing football facilities at the Indiana 149/Haglund Road site. Pop Warner officers have been negotiating with a council representative about tentative terms of a lease.

Monday the town’s Redevelopment Commission will meet for the first time this year at 7 p.m. at the town hall. Town Council members also sit as the RDC.
