Abandoned homes and Indiana 149 study on Burns Harbor Town Council agenda

Back To Front Page

The Burns Harbor Town Council will meet for its regular meeting this Wednesday at the Town Hall complex, 1240 N. Boo Road, starting at 7 p.m.

In new business, the Council will hold a discussion on the abandoned homes throughout the town and what the Council can do to address issues arising from them. The agenda also lists the Council considering the Town’s Redevelopment Commission request for a public gathering permit for the food truck village at the former Westport Community Center site on weekends starting in July.

Other new business includes the decommissioning of two of the Police Department’s Chevy Impala vehicles.

In old business, the Council will discuss with its engineering firm Global Engineering about a study done for Ind. 149. Global Engineering was asked to do the study to find out if it is feasible for the Town to be responsible for the stretch of Ind. 149 between U.S. 20 and U.S. 12, which includes the Westport site where the new downtown is said to be.

Also in old business, there will be a discussion on the town auction in July, mosquito fogging this summer, scholarship applications, volunteers for the Town’s rummage sale committee, appointments to the Sanitary Board and the possibility of the Council going back to two meetings per month.

The Council will hold readings on three different ordinances. The first will be a second reading on the membership of the Town’s Sanitary Board. The second is to establish a fund for the Town’s distribution of local income tax funds for roads and infrastructure. The third will be an amendment to the ordinance establishing the Redevelopment Committee.

A resolution will also be considered that would require tax abatement compliance forms to include a signature by the Town Council president.

In correspondence, the Council will hear a request for a donation to the Town of Porter’s Family 4th Fest and an end of the year report from the Porter County Tourism Bureau.

Town department heads, park board and RDC represenatives will make reports to the Council.

The public is encouraged to attend and may give comment during the good of the order of the community.
