Trojan Volleyball wins CHS Invite

The Chesterton volleyball team won the CHS Invitational on Saturday with a perfect 4-0 record.

The Trojans picked up victories over South Bend Washington (25-12, 25-8), Michigan City Marquette (25-10, 25-8), Bishop Noll (25-23, 25-14) and Portage (26-24, 16-25, 15-12).

Offensively, the Trojans were led by Ginger Hedrick with 24 kills, while Kristin Stillman added 14 kills. Kylie Vendramin contributed 12 kills and Ella Whitmore added 10 kills.

Whitmore had a team-best 32 assists with Olivia Smilgius dishing out 24 helpers.

Defensively, Lorann Lombardini led the way with 30 digs and Sammy Devereaux added 20 digs. Whitmore tallied 16 digs on the day and Vendramin added 11 digs.

At the net, Hedrick had a team-high nine blocks and Ariel Rohe got eight blocks. Whitmore contributed six blocks.

On the service line, Smilgius and Rohe tallied eight aces each, while Devereaux had seven aces. Lombardini recorded four aces.

Lombardini, Hedrick and Whitmore were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they host Merrillville. The JV game is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
