Trojan Volleyball wins Chesterton Invitational

The Chesterton volleyball team had little trouble in picking up four victories and winning the CHS Invitational on Saturday.

The Trojans racked up victories over South Bend Clay (25-6, 25-6), Bishop Noll (25-15, 25-15), Michigan City Marquette (25-19, 25-17) and Portage (25-20, 25-19).

Offensively, Meghan Gaffigan led the Trojans with 29 kills, while Emma Ekblaw tallied 24 kills. Maggie Vrahoretis had 14 kills and Katie Nelson recorded 13 kills.

Vrahoretis dished out a team-best 38 assists with Grace Newman adding 20 assists. Celia Faroh tallied 16 helpers.

Defensively, Nelson had 32 digs, while Gaffigan had 29 digs and Vrahoretis had 26 digs. Eva Everett and Greta Tilden each had 13 digs with AJ Devereaux and Newman tallying 10 digs each.

On the service line, Tilden had a team-high 11 aces and Gaffigan had six aces. Everett and Nelson each recorded five aces.

At the net, Gaffigan had seven block kills, while Reese Czarniecki and Ella Rodriguez had five blocks. Ekblaw, Vrahoretis and Maddie Wagner had three blocks each.

The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Merrillville.
