Trojan volleyball outlasts Michigan City

The Chesterton volleyball team outlasted Michigan City 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 18-16 to pick up a Duneland Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday.

Offensively, Meghan Gaffigan led the Trojans with 22 kills, while Maggie Vrahoretis added 14 kills. Brooke Smith recorded 10 kills in the victory. Reese Czarniecki had six kills with Emma Ekblaw tallying five kills.

Vrahoretis dished out a team-best 22 assists and Grace Newman handed out 14 helpers. Celia Faroh recorded 11 assists.

Defensively, Katie Nelson had a career-high 51 digs with Gaffigan adding 18 digs. Vrahoretis tallied 15 digs and Greta Tilden recorded 14 digs. Faroh had 10 digs.

At the net, Czarniecki had eight blocks and Gaffigan recorded three blocks.

On the service line, Vrahoretis had three aces with Gaffigan tallying two aces.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they host Merrillville. The JV game is set for 5 p.m.
