Trojan Volleyball opens with road victory

The Chesterton varsity volleyball team opened with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-13 victory at Hammond Morton on Tuesday night.

Offensively, the Trojans were led by freshman Sammi Ostrom with six kills, while Emily Marcus, Sara Tarnowski and Shelby Snyder added three kills each.

Jacklyn Moleski, Kennedy Baltus, Aubrey Nagdeman and Jessica Urycki each tallied two kills.

Baltus dished out a team-best 12 assists with Snyder adding eight aiders.

Marcus had four service aces and Tarnowski added three with Jordyn Moleski leading the team with eight digs.

At the net, Ostrom, Nagdeman and Urycki recorded two block kills as Snyder, Kaitlin Kuypers and Brittany Milzarek each had one block kill.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 25-25,

Hammond Morton 11-9

The Chesterton junior varsity opened the 2013 campaign with an impressive 25-11, 25-9 victory over Hammond Morton.

Lia Lombardini led the offense with six kills, while Laney Marcus and Abby Moon had three kills each. Kaitlin Kuypers, Haley Notzen and Brittany Milzarek each tallied two kills.

Jenna Tarnowski dished out a team-best eight assists with Caitlyn Toth adding seven assists. Toth also added a team-high five service aces.

Lombardini had seven digs to lead the defense and Marcus added six digs. Milzarek had four block kills.


Chesterton 25-25,

Hammond Morton 24-23

The Chesterton freshman battled back from behind in both games to pick up a 25-24, 25-23 win at Hammond Morton.

Hannah Mix led the offense with six kills and Hayley McBride added three kills. Maddie Jones had a team-high nine assists.

Alex Devereaux led the way on the serving line with five aces.
