Trojan Volleyball falls in 5 games

The Chesterton volleyball team dropped a tough five-set Duneland Athletic Conference decision 13-25, 14-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-13 at Lake Central on Tuesday.

Offensively, Taylor Bowser led the Trojans with 14 kills, while McKenna Guernsey had 11 kills. Maggie Vrahoretis added five kills with Vivi Smilgius (4 kills) and Maddie Wagner (3 kills) also contributing.

Vrahoretis dished out a team-best 19 assists as Smilgius tallied 16 helpers.

On the service line, Caroline Parks had five aces with Lorann Lombardini and Vrahoretis adding four aces each. Smilgius had three aces in the loss.

Defensively, Lombardini paced the Trojans with 28 digs as Bowser added 23 digs. Sammy Devereaux recorded eight digs, while Gurensey and Smilgius each had six digs.

At the net, Bowser, Parks and Wagner all had four block kills. Vrahoretis added three block kills.

Chesterton returns to the court on Thursday when they host Valparaiso. The JV game is set for a 5 p.m. start.
