Trojan Tennis sweeps Merrillville

The Chesterton girls tennis team improved to 2-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 sweep at Merrillville on Tuesday.

In singles, Hannah Nabhan had little trouble at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sydney Jackson. Olivia Vesling cruised at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Aysia Kirklen.

Peyton Martinson completed the singles rout with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Madison Bulluck at No. 3.

In doubles, Eliza Tumbas and Kara Maggio beat Allure Calhoun and Kate Vinson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while Rachel Fredenburg and Megan Hill beat Ashlyn Robinson and Nijal Jones 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they host Michigan City beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Record: Chesterton 3-1 (2-0 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 9, Merrillville 1

The Chesterton junior varsity improved to 4-0 on the season with a 9-1 victory over Merrillville.

Individual winners in singles included Paige Donovan (No. 1), Libby Gibson (No. 2), Maddy Haskell (No. 3) and Sofia Winski (No. 4). All four won in straight sets.

In doubles, winners included Samantha Fazekas-Haillee Ellenwood (No. 1), Korie Berdine-Charlie Skube (No. 2), Rachel Byrnside-Hannah Hill (No. 3), Anna Gardner-Christian Charlson (No. 4), Emily Krygoske-Jenna Aguilar (No. 5) and Kassidy Crowell-Blaire Smith (No. 6).
