Trojan Tennis beats Kankakee Valley 3-2

The Chesterton girls tennis team won its first dual meet of the season with a 3-2 victory at Kankakee Valley on Monday.

The lone winner in singles came at No. 1 as Hannah Nabhan beat Brittany Hoffman 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, the team of Rachel Fredenberg and Megan Hill beat Kyla Dykstra and Madi Rowan 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1. At No. 2, Eliza Tumbas and Hailee Ellenwood beat Abby Sayers and Christina Birky 6-3, 6-1.

Chesterton returns to the court on Thursday when they travel to Crown Point for a 4:15 p.m. start.

Singles -- 1. Hannah Nabhan def. Brittany Hoffman 6-0, 6-1; 2. Katherine Miles (KV) def. Ashley Roof 7-5, 3-6, 6-4; 3. Aubrey Toppen (KV) def. Amanda Slivka 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles -- 1. Rachel Fredenberg/Megan Hill def. Kyla Dykstra/Madi Rowen 6-4, 7-5; 2. Eliza Tumbas/Hailee Ellenwood def. Abby Sayers/Christina Birky 6-3, 6-1.

Record: Chesterton 1-1.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 6, Kankakee Valley 4

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Kankakee Valley 6-4 on Monday.

Picking up wins in singles for the Trojans were Olivia Vesling (#1) and Korie Berdine (#2) in straight sets.

In doubles, Taylor Nemtuda/Paige Donovan (#1), Maddy Haskell/Rachel Byrnside (#2), Anna Gardner/Christian Charlson (#3) and Natalie Erkman/Melanie Erkman (#5) all were victorious.
