Trojan softball team trounces LaPorte

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team (19-3, 10-2) got back to its impressive play with a 10-0 Duneland Athletic Conference shutout of LaPorte.

“Two weeks of games every night,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said. “It will be nice to get a night or two off this week. Playing LC, Crown Point and Portage back-to-back kind of took some of our energy and focus away.

“I think we have gotten some of it back and have relaxed a little.”

The Trojans opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs and added two more in the third.

Megan Tymorek walked ahead of a Jill Bohnert home run in the second, while Alexa Olson and Sydney Cooley scored on a Sarah Richards double in the third.

Bailey Slivka plated Olson in the fifth with a sacrifice fly and the Trojans sent nine hitters to the plate in the sixth to put the final touches on the victory. Richards, Tymorek, Slivka and Mallory McKee had RBI’s during the rally.

“We had the bases loaded in all but one inning,” Hopson said. “We put the ball in play hard. Megan (Tymorek), Sarah (Richards), Mallory (McKee) and Bailey (Slivka) all hit the ball solid the entire game.”

Offensively, McKee, Tymorek and Richards collected three hits each, while Slivka, Bohnert and Shelby Carter each had two hits.

Tymorek worked all six innings in the circle for Chesterton, recording six strikeouts and allowing just four hits.
