The Chesterton softball team (19-3, 10-2) got back to its impressive play
with a 10-0 Duneland Athletic Conference shutout of LaPorte.
“Two weeks of games every night,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said. “It
will be nice to get a night or two off this week. Playing LC, Crown Point
and Portage back-to-back kind of took some of our energy and focus away.
“I think we have gotten some of it back and have relaxed a little.”
The Trojans opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs and added
two more in the third.
Megan Tymorek walked ahead of a Jill Bohnert home run in the second, while
Alexa Olson and Sydney Cooley scored on a Sarah Richards double in the
Bailey Slivka plated Olson in the fifth with a sacrifice fly and the Trojans
sent nine hitters to the plate in the sixth to put the final touches on the
victory. Richards, Tymorek, Slivka and Mallory McKee had RBI’s during the

Offensively, McKee, Tymorek and Richards collected three hits each, while
Slivka, Bohnert and Shelby Carter each had two hits.
Tymorek worked all six innings in the circle for Chesterton, recording six
strikeouts and allowing just four hits.
Chesterton 13, LaPorte 4
The Chesterton junior varsity scored seven runs in the fifth inning to break
open a close game and garner a 13-4 victory over LaPorte.
Jordan Wadding and Emily Hamady started the rally with singles. Abby Brown
loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch.
Britta Johnson’s double to right scored Wadding and Hamady. Kayla Tracy
plated Brown with a single, while Lia Lombardini and Nicole Bross finished
up the inning with triples.
