The Chesterton offense got hot early and kept rolling in a 16-7 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Portage on Wednesday.

Maddie Snemis led off the game by drawing a walk and Cassidy Grimm singled just ahead of Lexi Benkoís three-run home run. Benko would hit three home runs and drive in eight runs.

In the second, Faith Matta lined a two-out single to start another rally. Snemis singled and Grimm doubled to score both runners.

Benko finished the rally with her second home run, this time a two-run shot.

Portage touched up Chesterton starter Lauren Kobialka for three runs in the top of the third, but the Trojan offense responded again.

Kobialka was hit by a pitch to start the inning and courtesy runner Katie Hanson advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kaitlyn Carr. Marney Sissonís single put runners on the corners.

Gillian Price hit a three-run home run to center field to push the Trojan lead to 10-3.

Benko singled to start a fourth inning rally and pinch-runner Noelle Michael advanced to second on a ground out. Carrís two-run home run made it 12-3.

After the Indians added four runs in the top of the fifth, the Trojans again put together a rally.

Matta singled with one out and Snemis singled to left. Grimmís ground ball up the middle scored Matta before Benko launched her third home run of the game to clear the bases.

Benko led the offense with four hits, while Snemis and Grimm had three hits each. Price and Matta each tallied two hits with Carr and Sisson also recording hits.

Kobialka got the win in the circle after working five innings and striking out three. Benko worked the final two frames and struck out two.
