Trojan Softball improves to 3-0

The Chesterton softball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 7-0 home opening victory over Griffith on Thursday.

The Trojans opened the scoring in their first at-bat as Maddie Snemis reached first on a misplayed line drive. Lexi Benko's RBI double scored Snemis for a 1-0 lead. Lauren Kobialka singled to plate Benko.

Faith Matta singled to start the second inning and went to second on an error. After stealing third, Matta scored on Snemis' ground out.

Two more runs in the third started with a leadoff home run from Benko and Hope Matta scored on a passed ball to push the lead to 5-0.

Cassidy Grimm's sacrifice fly plated Faith Matta in the fourth inning and Mae Mallon's fifth inning home run completed the scoring.

Benko, Kobialka and Matta all had two hits to lead the Chesterton offense, while Kobialka allowed just four hits and struck out seven in picking up the win in the pitching circle.

The Trojans return to the field tonight when they head to Hanover Central for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 8, Griffith 2

The Chesterton junior varsity picked up an 8-2 victory in its home opener on Thursday.

Hannah Massey went 1-for-4 with a home run, while Gillian Price went 2-for-4 with a single and a double, Price struck out 11 in working all seven innings in the pitching circle.
