Trojan Softball falls to LC in extra innings

The Chesterton softball team battled into extra innings, but couldnít come away with a victory in dropping a 6-4 Duneland Athletic Conference decision to Lake Central on Monday.

The Trojans got on the scoreboard first when Bailey Slivka led off the second inning with a double and scored on Jill Bohnertís RBI single.

Chesterton added two more runs in the third as Sarah Richards and Mallory McKee tallied back-to-back doubles. McKee would score on Slivkaís two-out single.

Lake Central tied things up in the fifth thanks to a two-run home run and a two-out RBI single.

The Trojans had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh after they loaded the bases, but were unable to score.

A two-out double with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth plated three runs for LC to give them a 6-3 lead.

Bohnert tried to rally the Trojans with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the eighth and Allena McElfresh tallied a one-out single, but the Trojans couldnít score.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 7, Lake Central 5

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Lake Central 7-5 on Monday.

The Indians had an early 3-0 lead, but the Trojans plated two runs in the third inning when Michelle Vasquez scored Jordan Wadding and Haley McBride.

In the bottom of the sixth, CHS scored five runs to secure the win. Elizabeth Zehner started the inning with a single. Britta Johnson followed with a double. McBride singled to score Zehner and Johnson.

Natalie Anderson pitched four innings with one strikeout, while Emily Jerome pitched three innings.
