Trojan Softball falls to Crown Point

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team couldn’t put enough offense together and dropped a 9-1 Duneland Athletic Conference decision to Crown Point on Tuesday.

“Our defense hustled hard again tonight,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said. “We just couldn’t stop Crown Point from hitting the ball.”

The visiting Bulldogs started things in their first at bat with a single and two-out double for a quick 2-0 lead.

Chesterton answered in the bottom of the first when Shelby Grimm doubled to lead things off. Grimm moved to third on a wild pitch and eventually scored on another wild pitch.

Things remained that way until the fourth when Crown Point added three runs against Trojan starter Lia Lombardini. The Bulldogs added four more in the sixth to set the final score.

“I though we competed for three innings,” Hopson said. “The problem is we were not putting the ball in play offensively.”
