softball team scored four runs in the sixth inning to pick up an 11-6
non-conference win at New Prairie on Saturday.
The Trojans opened
the scoring in the top of the first as Lexi Benko singled and moved to
second on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Micaela Iacovetti. Lauren
Kobialka’s RBI single to left plated Benko for a 1-0 lead.
answered back with four runs in the second off of Chesterton starter
Kobialka, but the Trojans responded with three runs in the third to tie the
game at 4-4.

fielder’s choice and Iacovetti singled ahead of Kaitlyn Carr’s three-run
In the fourth,
Marney Sisson double to start the frame and moved to third on Jenna Vagner’s
ground out. Maddie Snemis reached on an error as Sisson scored.
Following a walk to
Benko, Iacovetti doubled to plate Snemis for a 6-4 Trojan lead.
answered with one run of their own before Chesterton got the bats going
again in the sixth.
Vagner reached on
an error to start the inning and Snemis hit a misplayed ball into left field
that brought Vagner all the way home. Iacovetti hit a two-out pop fly that
was dropped in the infield that scored Snemis.
Kobialka took full
advantage with a two-run home run to center field.
Another run by New
Prairie was followed by a solo run from the Trojans in the seventh to set
the final score. After a leadoff walk, Snemis would eventually score on a
sacrifice fly from Iacovetti.
Benko picked up the
win for the Trojans in the pitching circle with three innings of work (3
strikeouts). Kobialka worked the first three innings (5 strikeouts) and
Kaitlyn Carr tallied one inning of work.
