Trojan Softball beats Merrillvile

The Chesterton softball team had little trouble picking up another Duneland Athletic Conference victory with a 13-1 win at Merrillville on Thursday.

The Trojans jumped on top in the second as Bailey Slivka reached on an error and Sydney Cooley doubles. Sierra LaFreniere’s double scored both.

Chesterton added six more runs in the third inning as Sarah Richards doubled and Alexa Olson single. Richards scored on a wild pitch just before a Mallory McKee single.

Olson and McKee scored on Slivka’s double. After a single by Cooley, LaFreniere plated Slivka with an RBI single and Cooley scored on Lia Lombardini’s fielder’s choice.

LaFreniere scored on Richards’ two-out single.

Three more runs crossed the plate in the fourth as Jill Bohnert reached on an error. Slivka’s double plated a run and she scored on Cooley’s double. Cooley scored on another two-out hit by Richards.

The game’s final run came in the fifth as McKee led off with a single. Slivka’s two-out single scored McKee to set the final score.

Richards, Slivka and Cooley all had three hits for the Trojans, while Slivka added four RBI’s. LaFreniere drove in three runs and Richards had two RBI’s.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 11, Merrillville 0

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Merrillville 11-0 on Thursday.

Michelle Vasquez led the Trojans with two infield hits and scored twice. Haley McBride added a two-run home run as well.

Natalie Anderson pitched all five innings and struck out nine, while allowing just one hit.
