Trojan Softball beats Hanover Central

Back To Front Page

Mother Nature huffed and puffed, but couldnít keep the Chesterton softball team from getting a 9-5 non-conference victory at Hanover Central on Wednesday.

The Trojans jumped on top early with three first inning runs started by Maddie Snemis, Cassidy Grimm and Lexi Benko all getting singles with one out to load the bases. Kari LaFreniere reached on an error that scored Snemis and Cassidy Grimm for a 2-0 lead.

Benko scored when Hayley McBride reached on an error.

Hanover Central responded with four runs in the second, thanks in part to an errant throw from the outfield and a bad-hop single.

A solo home run for the Wildcats in the fifth pushed Hanoverís lead to 5-3.

Hailey Johansen was hit by a pitch to start the Trojans sixth. Pinch-runner Noelle Michael moved all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Shelby Grimmís single.

Shelby Grimm scored on a triple by Snemis, who scored when the throw to the third went out of play.

Chesterton added three more in the seventh as LaFreniere walked and Biz Zehner singled. LaFreniere scored when Lauren Anderson beat out an infield single.

Zehner scored on Hamadyís single and Anderson was plated on an RBI single by Shelby Grimm.

Anderson picked up the win with 5.1 innings of relief work and struck out eight.

The Trojans return to the field tonight when they travel to Lowell for a 4:45 p.m. first pitch.
