Trojan Girls win DAC opener at Lake Central

The Chesterton girls basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 47-43 victory at Lake Central on Wednesday night.

The Trojans outscored 14-6 in the third quarter to erase a 23-19 Indian halftime lead and then hung on for the victory.

Marney Sisson led CHS with 15 points, including 6-of-7 at the foul line. The Trojans were 17-of-23 from the charity stripe and outscored LC 17-5 at the line.

Ashley Craycraft added 11 points for Chesterton with Molly Slatcoff tallying eight points.

Rounding out the scoring were Haley Moore (5 points), Nalani Malackowski (4 points) and Emma Schmidt (4 points).

The Trojans held Lake Central to 16-of-41 shooting (39 percent) from the floor and just 6-of-21 (29 percent) from 3-point range.

CHS returns home on Tuesday night when they host East Chicago Central. The JV game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

Junior Varsity

Lake Central 33, Chesterton 26

The Chesterton junior varsity dropped its first decision of the season in a 33-26 loss at Lake Central on Wednesday.

Tori Gerhardt led the Trojans with 10 points, while Carley Balas scored five points.

Rounding out the scoring for Chesterton was Geneva Nelson (4 points), Jaelynne Corral (4 points), Lauren Davis (2 point) and Sophia Raffin (1 point).
