Trojan Girls Tennis falls 3-2 to Culver Academy

The Chesterton girls tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to Culver Academy on Friday night.

The Trojans got a pair of victories in singles at the top of their lineup beginning with Hannah Nabhan beating Kingsley Cortes 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1.

Paige Donovan also won with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Camila Romandia at No. 2.

“Tonight we honored our three seniors, Taylor Nemtuda, Amanda Slivka and Ashley Fazekas,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “Those three girls all represented CHS the right way and were such great teammates. They are tremendous role models for our younger kids as they always put team first ahead of personal glory.”

Chesterton returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Portage to start the IHSAA Sectional tournament beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Singles -- 1. Hannah Nabhan © def. Kingsley Cortes 6-3, 6-2; 2. Paige Donovan © def. Camila Romandia 6-1, 6-2; 3. Lilia Rosigque (CA) def. Amanda Slivka 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles -- 1. Hashita Sangaraju/Rachel Dodson (CA) def. Megan Hill/Kara Maggio 6-3, 6-2; 2. Kennedy Kubica/Gabrielle Maiolo (CA) def. Taylor Nemtuda/Eliza Tumbas 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Record: Chesterton 4-7.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 6, Culver Academy 4

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Culver Academy 6-4.

Winning in singles were Korie Berdine (No. 2), Hailee Ellenwood (No. 3) and Ashley Fazekas (No. 4).

In doubles, Ashley Fazekas/Samantha Fazekas (No. 1), Rachel Byrnside/Maddy Haskell (No. 2) and Hannah Hill/Christian Charlson (No. 3) all were winners.
