Trojan Girls Tennis beats LaLumiere, 5-0

The Chesterton girls tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-0 victory at LaLumiere on Friday.

The Trojans dominated doubles play for two quick team points. At No. 1, Eliza Tumbas and Ashley Roof beat Cassidy Rehrer and Gina Billys 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 2, Megan Hill and Rachel Fredenburg shut out Savanna Starr and Eesha Petel 6-0, 6-0.

In singles, Hannah Nabhan outlasted Natalie McGuckin 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 1 and Olivia Vesling beat Gladys Zhang 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2.

Peyton Martinson completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Haley Harkness at No. 3 singles.

The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Merrillville for a 4:30 p.m. start.

Singles -- 1. Hannah Nabhan def. Natalie McGuckin 6-2, 2-6, 6-0; 2. Olivia Vesling def. Gladys Zhang 6-3, 6-3; 3. Peyton Martinson def. Haley Harkness 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles -- 1. Eliza Tumbas/Ashley Roof def. Cassidy Rehrer/Gina Billys 6-0, 6-1; 2. Megan Hill/Rachel Fredenburg def. Savanna Starr/Eesha Petel 6-0, 6-0.

Record: Chesterton 2-1.

Portage Doubles Tourney

The Chesterton girls tennis team finished second in the 8-team Portage Double Tournament on Saturday.

Indianapolis Bishop Chatard won the event with 36 points, while the Trojans tallied 34 points. Lake Central was third (23) and Portage was fourth (22).

CHS was led by the first place finish of Rachel Fredenburg and Megan Hill at No. 3 and Hailee Ellenwood and Peyton Martinson at No. 4. Both teams were 3-0 on the day.

At No. 1, Hannah Nabhan and Eliza Tumbas were 2-1 for a third place finish as was Kara Maggio and Ashley Roof at No. 2. Paige Donovan teamed with Maggio in the final match of the day.
