The Chesterton girls swim team set themselves up for a 21st straight IHSAA Sectional title Thursday night in the Prelims at Valparaiso High School.

The Trojans will be the top seed in nine events, including sweeping the top three spots in the 200 Free, 200 IM and 100 Back.

“We swam very well tonight,” Chesterton coach Mat Pavlovich said. “We had solid swims and several best times in certain spots. I’m excited for Saturday and what more rest will bring.”

Double top seeds individually include Maisyn Klimczak in the 200 Free (1:53.47) and the 500 Free (5:04.98) and Alana Jardenil in the 200 IM (2:07.36) and the 100 Breast (1:04.52).

Jardenil’s swim in the 100 Breast also broke the CHS school record.

Other top seeds include Olivia Kroeger in the 100 Fly (57.73) and Jordan Alders (58.15).

Chesterton will also be the top seed in all three relays including the 200 Medley group of Mady Elliott, Jardenil, Kroeger and Veronika Ozimek (1:47.95).

The Trojans also lead the way in the 200 Free Relay with the team of Sierra Jones, Sophia Gill, Abigail Raines and Lauren Unruh (1:39.95) and the 400 Free Relay quartet of Unruh, Alders, Klimczak and Ozimek (3:38.90).

Second seeds for the Trojans include Unruh (200 Free, 500 Free), Ozimek (200 IM, 100 Free), Sierra Jones (50 Free) and Elliott (100 Back).

Third place seeds are Alders (200 Free), Elliott (200 IM), Raines (50 Free), Gill (100 Fly) and Jones (100 Free).

The Sectional champion automatically qualifies for the IHSAA State Finals next weekend in Indianapolis, along with anyone swimming the State Cut qualifying time.

The Diving competition begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the Swimming Finals beginning at 1 p.m. at Valparaiso High School.
