Trojan Girls Hoops beats Bishop Noll 58-18

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton girls basketball turned up the defense again and never faltered in picking up a 58-18 non-conference victory over Bishop Noll on Tuesday night.

“If you’re a pretty good team, that’s what should happen,” Chesterton coach Jack Campbell said. “You have to throw out the score and get out there and do what you are supposed to.”

The Trojans built a 22-4 lead after one quarter and extended it to 36-8 at the half as they forced 18 Bishop Noll turnovers. The Warriors turned the ball over 33 times overall and hit on just 7-of-31 shots (23 percent) from the field.

“You can always play hard defensively,” Campbell said. “The ball doesn’t always go in the basket, but you can play hard. We’ve had really good energy at the start of the last few ball games and our offense feeds off that defensive pressure.”

The third quarter saw the Trojan defense hold the Warriors to just three points as the outcome never was in doubt.

Offensively, Shannon McCoy led Chesterton with 18 points, while Chelsea Jackson added 14 points.

Rounding out the scoring were Courtney Krol (8 points), Maddie Scott (4 points), Sarah Dzierba (3 points), Brittany Privett (3 points), Annika Babcock (3 points), Jenna Tarnowski (2 points), Sydney Sisson (2 points) and Marney Sisson (2 points).

“Anytime you can play everybody it’s a good thing,” Campbell said.

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they host Crown Point. The junior varsity contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
