Trojan girls fall to West Side

The Chesterton girls basketball team ran into a buzz saw Thursday night.

The Gary West Side Cougars ran at will and cruised to a 75-53 non-conference victory in the Trojansí regular season -finale.

West Side built a 21-11 lead after one period and increased it to 43-19 at halftime. The lead would reach 72-32 early in the fourth quarter.

Caroline Puntillo scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Trojans who will open IHSAA Sectional play on Wednesday at Hobart against Michigan City beginning at 6 p.m.

Rounding out the scoring for Chesterton were Kassidy Scott (4 points), Jordan Wadding (4 points), Lauren Kusbel (3 points), Hailee Norton (2 points) and Natalie Petro (2 points).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 41, Gary West Side 13

The Chesterton junior varsity finished its season 15-5 overall following a 41-13 season-ending victory over Gary West Side on Thursday night.

Shannon McCoy led the offense with eight points, while Camie Brown tallied six points and Taylor Eaton added five points.

Rounding out the scoring were Jenna Tarnowski (4 points), Morgan Skube (4 points), Xaundra Rodriguez (3 points), Sam Warren (2 points), Lia Lombardini (2 points), Haley Notzen (2 points), Brittany Privett (2 points), Ellie Welsch (2 points) and Megan Kerkes (1 point).
