The one-man fast break that is Jenasae Bishop was just to much.

East Chicago Central outscored Chesterton 23-6 in the first quarter and cruised to a 71-51 non-conference victory on Tuesday night.

“They shot the ball great,” Chesterton coach Jack Campbell said. “There was dribble penetration, kick out and make it. When they weren’t getting a layup of course.”

The Trojans stayed close early as EC led just 8-6 with 3:55 to play in the first quarter. But, the Cardinals finished the quarter on a 15-0 run.

After a Brittany Privett score for Chesterton to start the second quarter, the Cardinals went on an 8-0 run and led 37-19 at the half.

“The first half we should have been down 9 or 10,” Campbell said. “We had a lot of shots right at the basket and just didn’t make them.”

EC hit a triple to start the third quarter and the Trojans never got the lead under 20 points again.

“You can control things like blocking out and stopping the basketball,” Campbell said. “We didn’t do those type of things.”

Chesterton hit on just 15-of-63 shots (24 percent) from the floor, including 1-of-18 from 3-point range. EC was 25-of-50 (.500) from the field.

“We were impatient,” Campbell said. “We made one pass and fired a shot. When those go in, things are great and everybody’s happy and playing well. When they don’t, teams like that take off and it’s hard to stop them.”

Shannon McCoy and Hailey Vale (10 rebounds) led the Trojans with 14 points each. East Chicago’s Bishop led all scorers with 27 points (10 rebounds).

“Turn the page and you’ve got another one of them coming,” Campbell said. “We’ll try to get better in practice the next couple of days and be ready for Michigan City on Friday.”

The Trojans return to the court on Friday night when they host the Wolves with the junior varsity game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
