Trojan girls basketball team stays undefeated

Without leading scorer Courtney Krol, the Chesterton girls basketball team played long ball and improved to 9-0 on the year with a 60-40 non-conference victory at Plymouth on Wednesday night.

Leading just 43-37 in the fourth, the Trojans finished the game on a 17-3 run to set the final score.

Chesterton hit 7-of-14 shots from 3-point range led by Sarah Dzierba’s four triples on her way to a game-high 21 points. Hailey Vale added 15 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

Rounding out the scoring were Maddie Scott (9 points, 7 assists, 5 steals), Ashley Craycraft (8 points, 5 steals), Marney Sisson (4 points) and Nalani Malackowski (3 points).

The Trojans hit on 18-of-37 shots (49 percent) from the floor and were 17-of-25 from the foul line, while turning the ball over just eight times.

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday night when they host Duneland Athletic Conference rival Portage. The JV game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

Junior Varsity

Plymouth 26, Chesterton 19

The Chesterton junior varsity dropped a 26-19 decision at Plymouth on Wednesday night.

Offensively, Nalani Malackowski and Emma Schmidt led the Trojans with six points each.

Rounding out the scoring were Sydney Balas (3 points), Kaitlyn Carr (2 points) and Tori Gerhardt (2 points).
