Trojan Boys Tennis wins Duneland Conference title

The Chesterton boys tennis team won the outright Duneland Athletic Conference title with a 5-0 victory over Michigan City on Tuesday.

“I couldn’t be happier for the guys,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “They put the goal of winning the conference out there at the first practice of the season and to their credit they withstood all the pressures that come with that.”

In singles, Matt Jewison outbattled Devon Stromer for a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 1.

Nick Hanson and Corydon Gaff had much easier times as Hanson beat Danny Walker 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and Gaff beat Bohdan Walker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

In doubles, Blake Ellenwood and Chad Whelan cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Conner Reynolds and Tommy Komay at No. 1. Paul Petro and Luke Liapes completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Scott Kreighbaum and John Bruning at No. 2.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they face Munster beginning at 4:15 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 4, Michigan City 2

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Michigan City 4-2.

Singles winners for the Trojans included Jack Ward (No. 1), Danny Vear (No. 2) and Nolan Bernth (No. 4).

In doubles, Sam Keane and Payton Disney won at No. 1.
