Trojan Boys Tennis win DAC opener 4-1

The Chesterton boys tennis team won its Duneland Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over LaPorte.

In singles, Johny Mario outlasted Mike Varda 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to win at No. 1, while Zac Nabhan beat Bobby Barden 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3.

In doubles, Trey Moffett and Conner Kuhnle beat Austin Reece and Josh Cornwell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 while Tom McGue and Chris Fouts successfully defeated Morgan Arndt and Andrew Wintek 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday at Michigan City beginning at 4 p.m.

Singles -- 1. Johny Mario def. Mike Vards 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5); 2. Miles Droege (L) def. Dylan Jayasuriya 6-1, 6-2; 3. Zac Nabhan def. Bobby Barden 6-4, 7-5.

Doubles -- 1. Trey Moffett/Conner Kuhnle def. Austin Reece/Josh Cornwell 6-0, 6-0; 2. Tom McGue/Chris Fouts def. Morgan Arndt/Andrew Wintek 6-0, 6-2.

Record -- Chesterton 3-0 (1-0 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 5, LaPorte 2

The Chesterton junior varsity swept the singles position as No. 1 James Jewison won 4-1, 4-0, while Cameron Cook (No. 2) and Fred Owens (No. 3) both won in straight sets.

Conner Archbald and Alec Emmons won in three sets at No. 1 doubles and the No. 3 doubles team of Nate Dickinson and Tanner Fowler won 4-0, 4-0.
