The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 4-1 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory over LaPorte on Tuesday.

“LaPorte really played outstanding, and to our boys credit, we were able to hold them off,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said.

In singles, Luke Liapes set the stage with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Andy Emmons at No. 1.

“Luke at No. 1 singles was the spark that lit the fire for our team tonight,” Bour said. “When he came off the court with a 6-0, 6-2 win, the rest of the team seemed to feed off of that energy and pick up their games.”

Fabio Haiduc picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over Liam Wolf and Troy Feller completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 victory.

In doubles, James Navarro and Drew Engels dropped the opening set to Alex Ake and Brock Schultz before storming back for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Michigan City to take on the Wolves. The match is set for a 4:15 p.m. start.
