Trojan boys tennis team clinches share of Duneland Conference title

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 6-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play, clinching a share of the league title, with a 5-0 victory over LaPorte on Thursday.

The Trojans rolled through singles led by Matt Jewison with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Garrett Menke at No. 1.

Nick Hanson beat Abe Grey 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, while Corydon Gaff completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Graham Siefker at No. 2.

In doubles, Blake Ellenwood and Chad Whelan beat Adam Mannering and Trevor Perry 6-2, 6-2 as Paul Petro and Luke Liapes beat Brant Maudlin and Carson Stalbaum 6-0, 6-2.

Chesterton returns to the court on Monday when they host Lowell at 4:15 p.m. The Trojans will try to clinch the outright DAC title on Tuesday at home against Michigan City beginning at 4:15 p.m.

Doubles -- 1. Blake Ellenwood/Chad Whelan (C) def. Adam Mannering/Trevor Perry 6-2, 6-2; 2. Paul Petro/Luke Liapes (C) def. Brant Maudlin/Carson Stalbaum 6-0, 6-2.

Record: Chesterton 6-3 (6-0 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 7, LaPorte 0

The Chesterton junior varsity swept LaPorte 7-0 on Thursday.

Singles winners included James Navarro (No. 1), Troy Feller (No. 2) and John Petro (No. 3).

In doubles, winners for the Trojans were Creighton Gaff/Drew Engels (No. 1), Azeez Lakhani/John Powell (No. 2), Nate Rubino/Joe Wadowski (No. 3) and Aiden Li/Brandon Wong (No. 4).
