Trojan Boys Tennis gets 4-1 Duneland Conference win

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 2-1 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory at Portage on Tuesday.

In singles, Luke Liapes beat Ronnie Wilkins 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 as Azeez Lakhani beat Zander Marcotte 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.

In doubles, Nick Hanson and Corydon Gaff had little trouble with Evan Gerike and Bryan Garrison 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1.

Drew Engles and James Navarro finished off the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mickey Winicky and Cameron Tabor.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Merrillville. First serve is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

Singles -- 1. Bryce Kissinger (P) def. Chad Whelan 7-5, 4-6, 10-7; 2. Luke Liapes def. Ronnie Wilkins 6-2, 6-1; 3. Azeez Lakhani def. Zander Marcotte 6-1, 6-4.

Doubles -- 1. Nick Hanson/Corydon Gaff def. Evan Gerike/Bryan Garrison 6-1, 6-2; 2. Drew Engles/James Navarro def. Mickey Winicky/Cameron Tabor 6-4, 6-4.

Record: Chesterton 3-3 (2-1 DAC).
