The CHS boys tennis
team took the first set in four of five positions, but couldn’t close it out
and dropped a 3-2 decision to Penn in the IHSAA LaPorte Regional Finals.
“We were hoping to
be up on three courts after one set and we were up on four,” Bour said. “To
win four sets against a team as great as Penn is such a great
accomplishment. A lot of credit goes to the boys for believing in themselves
and showing up and playing with confidence and heart.

The Trojans first
team point came at No. 2 doubles when Drew Engels and James Navarro beat
Jackson Burhing and Jack Dinnon 6-3, 6-3.
“It was a great
win. I’m very happy for Drew and James to pull that win off,” Bour said.
“They’ve been solid all year long. They stayed up and didn’t give Penn any
hope or lead. They withstood all the runs they came up against.”
The final team
point came at No. 3 singles when Troy Feller outlasted Peter Yang 6-3, 7-5.
“Troy has been
great at No. 3. He’s 7-4 on the year and been sharing the spot with Azeez (Lakhani),”
Bour said. “They are both so selfless. They know they are sharing the spot
and they’ve come out and played great every time I’ve asked them to.”
At No. 1 doubles,
Chad Whelan and Nick Hanson won the opening set before falling 4-6, 6-1,
6-3, while Corydon Gaff won the opening set at No. 2 singles before losing
3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
“Chad (Whelan) and
Azeez (Lakhani) don’t know anything besides winning,” Bour said. “And to get
them an extra win this year in the Regional is something we talked about
before we played New Prairie. It wasn’t just another match. It was an
opportunity to do something that’s never been done before.
outstanding leaders and have been exactly what you want out of senior
captains. I couldn’t have asked for two better guys.”
